You Mean Mudjacking, Right?

No. I mean PolyLevel…

Mudjacking is a fairly well-known term. When people ask us at Lowcountry Basement Systems about our concrete repair services they often throw around the word “mudjacking”. Lots of homeowners say, “You mean, you guys do mudjacking, right?” Our response is, “No. We don’t”.

So, what is mudjacking and what concrete repair services do we offer? What’s the difference between mudjacking and PolyLevel?

Mudjacking Vs. PolyLevel

Mudjacking is a concrete lifting technique that uses a mixture of sand, water, and cement. This mixture is often called “slurry” or “mud”. When concrete areas have sunk, some companies will recommend drilling very large holes lots of them in the slab and forcing this slurry beneath the concrete. The thought is that the additional concrete will help support the area and force it back up. But there are a lot of problems with that.

· It is very obvious that the work was done. There are lots of holes, each about the size of a coke can.

· It is very messy. During the installation the slurry ends up all over the place, on top of plants, on top of the concrete, on the sides of houses.

· It doesn’t work. The added slurry is heavy and doesn’t address the weak soil that is supporting the slab. It only sinks faster.

What is PolyLevel?

PolyLevel is a two-part, expanding polymer foam that is injected beneath concrete to lift the slab. Small holes, about the size of a dime, are drilled in the sunken area of the slab, then PolyLevel is injected.

PolyLevel is an expanding “geotechnical” foam that expands due to a chemical reaction, it pushes the slab back towards its original position. It’s lightweight, eco-friendly and comes with a five-year warranty.

Which method to choose?

Mudjacking and PolyLevel sound like they do the same thing, but they don’t. They address the same problem but they are not the same thing. PolyLevel is an economic and environmentally friendly solution, while mudjacking is messy. PolyLevel is long-lasting, while mudjacking is not a long-term solution.
