Concrete Leveling Case Studies: Sinking Porch Lifted Back into Place Saint Helena Island, SC

Tuesday, December 4th, 2018 by Michael Connolly

Luke S. of Saint Helena Island, SC called Lowcountry Basement Systems worried about his foundation. The porch areas had begun to sink, pull away from the house and crack. After hearing about Lowcountry Basement Systems from a friend, Luke called and scheduled an inspection.

The Lowcountry Basement Systems inspector reviewed the situation and measured the drop of the porch areas with a laser level. The drop of the back porch measured one inch, but that one inch was enough to create a tripping hazard and a small crack in the drywall. The inspector recommended stabilizing the settling concrete with PolyLevel, a two-part closed-cell polyurethane foam. It is a structural-grade polymer that expands beneath concrete slabs, forcing the soil to compact, filling voids, and lifting the slab.

The areas were lifted back into place with PolyLevel. To prevent future problems the cracks were sealed using NexusPro Joint Sealant. The sealant is UV resistant, won’t crack, dry or bubble.

Luke had the work done, and it took the Lowcountry Basement Systems half a day to complete the job.

Project Summary

PolyLevel: 1 Gallon

Nexus Pro Joint Sealant: 2 Tubes
