Photo Album: Porch Steps Pulling Away From House in Milledgeville, GA
Josephine D. of Milledgeville, GA noticed that her front porch steps had settled and pulled away from her house. Unsightly, dangerous cracks appeared. At the age of 96, Josephine had a hard time navigating the stairs. She had an old Macon Telegraph ad for Lowcountry Basement Systems concrete repair service, she called for a free inspection of her problem. The inspector visited Josephine’s house and noted the settled steps. It was a unique situation. The porch was part of the basement foundation, not detached from the foundation like most steps. A custom solution was designed to fix the problem. It was recommended to install a Helical Pier System on both sides of the stairs. These steel piers, were mechanically “screwed” into the soil and attached to the foundation footing. The weight of the home was transferred to the load bearing strata deep in the ground.

Helical piers
Helical piers were used on both side of the steps to level and stabilize them. This ia a below grade solution concealed from sight and the galvanized steel will not rust.
