Photo Album: Humid Crawlspace Fixed in Daufuskie Island, SC
The homeowner found that the insulation in their crawlspace was falling down in many places and looked old. They called Lowcountry Foundation Repair interested in getting better insulation and an encapsulation. One of our inspectors came out for a free inspection and customized solution. Our full encapsulation system includes insulating the walls of the crawlspace in addition to its other aspects like our vapor barrier and dehumidifier, so the customer was pleased to move forward with that solution. Their crawlspace was transformed into a dry, moisture-controlled space, protecting the wood foundation from moisture and creating a conditioned space that protects the AC from working extra hard against hot outside air.
Open Crawlspace
This crawlspace has no protection from the outside moisture and heat with it being open. The AC that heats and cools the home will constantly be battling against the outside air, ramping up the energy bill.
High Relative Humidity
The humidity levels in the crawlspace were high at 75% relative humidity. The recommended humidity level is under 55%
High Wood Moisture
The wood moisture was high at about 20%.
After Encapsulation 1
The encapsulation installed protects the crawlspace by keeping out humid outside air and ground moisture, while insulating the outside walls.

Our full encapsulation system includes a dehumidifier to measure and control the air moisture levels.
