Ted S. of Hilton Head Island, SC called Lowcountry Basement Systems with a waterproofing problem in his standing crawl space. He observed multiple puddles of water on top of his clear plastic liner. Ted was concerned that the liner was protecting his subfloor safe from moisture and wanted to know why his system was failing.
Lowcountry Basement Systems sent an inspector, Dustin Farthing, to Ted’s house. Dustin saw the puddles. He measured the ambient temperature, the moisture in the air, and he measured the moisture content the wood joists, beam and areas of the subfloor. Dustin also photographed the areas around the piers, noting the linear did not completely seal off the crawl space from the earth.
Dustin recommended installing a Complete CleanSpace Encapsulation System with a SaniDry Sedona Dehumidifier (Energy Star Rated). Ted was not happy to hear that his crawl space systems was not performing but decided to have it redone with the tools and products recommended by Lowcountry Basement Systems.
The project required debris removal; 1791 ft. of Drainage Matting to channel large amounts of water to a SmartSump Pump with 1791 ft. of CleanSpace Liner on top. CleanSpace Liner is a 20 mil thick, cross woven vapor barrier that covers the earth is wrapped around support piers in a crawl space.
In addition to covering the earth, the crawl space vents were covered, a new crawlspace door was installed, then the SaniDry Sedona Dehumidifier was installed.
Days after the project Ted noticed a big difference between the old system and the one recommended by Lowcountry Basement Systems.
